About Us
A little history from our family to yours…
The Someburros story dates all the way back to the year 1972 when a little Mexican Food takeout opened in South Phoenix by the Vasquez Family. The restaurant was named Poncho’s, after Eusevio “Poncho” Vasquez, and was a family establishment from the very beginning. Poncho’s wife, Isabel, and her sister, Socorro, did the cooking using our delicious family recipes for authentic Sonoran-style Mexican Food. It wasn’t long before the little takeout grew into the full service restaurant and lounge that Poncho’s is today.
After running the restaurant for many years, their son, George and his wife, Mary saw the need for a new concept in dining. They were the parents of three children and were always on the go from Little League to Girl Scouts to swim meets and various school and community activities. They often needed to find a quick bite to eat, but were tired of fast-food burgers. By streamlining the food service while using the same family recipes, people could enjoy quality Mexican Food quickly.
Someburros opened in 1986, in Tempe, and has been serving delicious Mexican Food ever since. There are currently five Someburros locations. Four of them are located in the East Valley and the newest location is in North Scottsdale. All of the stores are owned and operated by the Vasquez family. George and Mary are still involved in the operation of Someburros, but have been joined by their three children, Tim, Amy and Jennilyn, who now run the day-to-day operation of the restaurant. Together with many long-time employees, the Vasquez family works hard to provide customers with excellent food plus quick and friendly service at a reasonable price. The Vasquez family is committed to maintaining the quality and consistency that was established more than 35 years ago in that little South Phoenix takeout.
